Winter Commission: Capturing Firelight in Autumn Hues
Why paint an autumn forest in the depths of winter?
This piece was a special commission with a beautiful goal: to capture the radiant, comforting warmth of a fireplace-not as an object, but as a feeling.
The request was for warm, glowing colors that evoke the crackle of wood and the dance of flames. To translate that sensation into color, I envisioned this moment: walking through a quiet, moss-covered autumn forest, bathed in the low, golden light of a setting sun. That light holds the same embracing, tranquil warmth as firelight.
Painted in vibrant acrylics first, then layered with rich oils to build depth and luminosity. The result is an invitation to feel that hearthside glow, emanating purely from color and memory.
